Cypress Health Region Facilities:
SWIFT CURRENT

Regional Health Office: 429-4th
Avenue N.E. Swift Current, Sask S9H 2J9 Ph:
778-5100 Fax: 773-9513
The Cypress Health Region Office was
constructed in the early 1950s and was originally used to provide living
quarters and recreational facilities for local and international nurses
working in the hospital.
The building became the district’s administrative headquarters in the
mid 1990s when administrative offices were removed from the hospital to
increase the room available for direct care. Administrative staff were
relocated to the Regional Health Centre as it was already owned by the
district, and this move saved funds that would have been required to
rent offices elsewhere or construct a new facility. The savings were
then reallocated to direct care services.
The Regional Health Centre is presently home to the CEO and various
administrative staff (e.g. payroll, human resources, scheduling). In
addition, some direct care professionals are also located in this
building, such as home care, adult addictions services and
physiotherapy. The Regional Health Centre is open to the public and
everyone is welcome to visit.

Swift Current Regional Hospital: 499-4th

The Swift Current Regional Hospital is a multi-story facility housing
many types of services such as intensive care, palliative care,
inpatient and outpatient surgery, renal dialysis, pediatric care, CT
scans, obstetrics/gynecology and general medical care. The facility is
staffed with registered professionals in a variety of disciplines, each
ensuring that the best possible service is being delivered to the
public. What this means is the best quality of life possible for those
with continuing health needs, and recovery from illness or injury to
optimal health in a timely manner.
The hospital was originally opened in 1951 and an addition was added in
1971. Recently, the Health Region has worked extensively with the City
of Swift Current, other health districts, rural municipalities, the Dr.
Noble Irwin Foundation and the provincial government to finalize plans
for obtaining a new facility for the citizens of southwest Saskatchewan.

Palliser Regional Care Centre:
440 Central Ave.
S Swift Current, Sask S9H 3G6 Ph: 778-5160 Fax:
773-3029
The Palliser Regional Care Centre
(PRCC) was originally opened in 1963 as a 120 bed Provincial Geriatric
Centre to serve as “a lasting monument to the humanitarian impulses of
the people of Saskatchewan. It is a further link in the growing
complement of facilities and programs designed to give Saskatchewan’s
older people a greater measure of security and to assure everyone in our
population that when they, in turn, grow old, society will likewise be
concerned for them” (W.S. Lloyd, then premier of Saskatchewan).
The 94-bed facility now provides level 4 care, to a wide range of
people. The PRCC is not focused solely on the elderly, but accommodates
others with special care needs as well. Serving residents from
throughout southwest Saskatchewan, the PRCC has evolved into a care
centre of provincial importance.
The building is designed to provide medical services and skilled nursing
care, rehabilitation therapy and recreation in addition to comfortable
living accommodations for the residents. Amenities include hairdressing
services, hobby and reading rooms, and spacious solariums which help
make the days more interesting and meaningful to those who call the PRCC
home. Resident accommodations are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and
range from private rooms to four-bed wards.
Staff at the PRCC encompass many different professional positions,
including registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses,
full-scope-of-practice licensed practical nurses and special care aides.
Nursing care is augmented by staff in areas such as social work,
therapy, nutrition services, laundry, and maintenance.
As part of the Cypress Health Region, the PRCC shares in a long and
illustrious history. In 1946, a group from Swift Current laid the
foundation for the first comprehensive health care system in North
America; a system that later served as an international model for care
delivery. The tradition of “District Number One” is a source of
pride and distinction for the citizens of our community and is one of
numerous health care accomplishments by and for the people of Southwest
Saskatchewan.

Prairie Pioneers Lodge: 302
Central Ave. S Swift Current, Sask S9H 5B6 Ph:
778-5192 Fax: 773-1635
Prairie Pioneers Lodge was officially opened on May 24, 1958 as a
"government-owned, ultra-modern senior citizen’s home" for
Swift Current and area. It was comprised of a 74-guest hostel, as well
as 37 separate dwelling duplex cottages. It was deemed " a
community within a city" and offered all amenities including
24-hour staffing. In 1994, ownership of the hostel facility was
transferred to the SCHD. At that time it was recognized that there was a
need to develop and create a specialized unit to meet the unique needs
of persons with dementia. This resulted in the creation of the "
Sunshine Wing" in the Lodge.
At present, the Prairie Pioneers Lodge is a 41-bed, light-level care and
dementia unit. We provide a secure environment for those who are at risk
for wandering, and strive to create a resident-focused home where the
residents’ wants and needs are paramount. We primarily meet the needs
of ambulatory clients. When the level of required care increases, the
Assessment and Placement Committee determines where that particular
resident's needs would best be met. This may result in having the
resident transferred to a different Long Term Care facility in the
District which provide higher levels of care. Prairie Pioneers Lodge
also offers a Palliative Care/Family Room that can be accessed when
needed.

Swift Current Care Centre: 700
Aberdeen Street S.E. Swift Current, Sask S9H 3E3 Ph:
773-9371 Fax: 773-1353
The Swift Current Care Centre facility is located one block east of Oman
public School, overlooking Horseshoe Lake and Chinook Golf Course. The
SCCC has private and semiprivate accommodations for 62 residents needing
level 3-4 care.
The SCCC also has 1 respite bed. The Respite Care Program is an
innovation in Special Care Homes to assist families providing care to a
relative or friend in the community. This program is intended to provide
short-term admissions up to 30 days to offer regular caregivers a brief
rest.
The SCCC tries to promote the independence of each resident by
encouraging participation in exercises, crafts, outings and various
programs.
Using available resources we seek to provide an environment where an
optimal quality of life is attainable for residents and their families.
The physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of our residents are
provided for with diligent care and sensitivity.
Our care staff consists of Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric
Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Special Care Aides and Social
Workers. We also have on site Activity staff, Nutrition Services Staff,
Housekeeping and Maintenance staff. We have access to Physical &
Occupational Therapy Services.
To be eligible for admission, individuals need to have an Assessment
completed. Social Workers or Home Care Case Managers complete
assessments. The Assessment and Placement Committee then review the
Assessment and application. This committee then prioritizes the
application according to specific criteria. If the criteria are met, the
individual will be notified when an accommodation becomes available.
